Then, on July 31, the federal government proposed cutting Colorado River deliveries to Arizona, California, and Nevada by up to 3 million acre-feet a year.
That's roughly a 40 percent reduction from current Lower Basin supply levels.
The Bureau of Reclamation stepped in after seven states spent years failing to agree on new rules for a river system that's running out of time.
Put those two headlines side by side and you get the defining tension of this decade. America is trying to build the physical backbone of the AI age in one of its driest regions.
That doesn't mean the Arizona chip strategy is doomed. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is already investing heavily in recycling and reclamation.
But it does mean the map of American technological power just ran straight into the map of American water.
